Deductions from pay

Deductions from pay are amounts taken out of the worker's pay before it is 'in hand'. Some deductions are authorised by legislation, and some by private agreement between employer and employee. Legislated deductions include: tax, garnishee orders, and superannuation. Private deductions include: insurance premiums, union dues and salary sacrifice payments (eg novated vehicle lease).
