Employers can reimburse work-related expenditure either directly via petty cash or via an allowance. Examples of this category of allowance include: Meal allowance; Motor vehicle allowance; Tool allowance; and Living away from home allowance.
 
Awards and agreements may provide for reimbursements. Note too that company policies often address the issues and some contracts of employment do as well.
 
The key issue for the Pay Office relating to reimbursement of expenses is that expense claims should be supported by receipts.
