The Federal Government’s Award Review Taskforce (ART) has released two discussion papers relating to its task of simplifying the existing 4000 state and federal awards and the 44,000 wage classifications contained within them.

The discussion papers invite comment and feedback on a range of award-related issues.

One paper examines the rationalisation of current federal awards, while the other focuses on the rationalisation of wages and classification structures from current state and federal awards.

Report by end of March 2006

The Taskforce is due to report by the end of March 2006 on its recommended strategies for the rationalisation of federal awards and of the of wages and classification structures.

Following a decision by the Government on the methodology for award rationalisation, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission will be given the task of undertaking the award rationalisation process.
