The NSW Commission has approved the second of the two phased in minimum rates adjustments which were awarded when it handed down the new Clerical and Administrative Employees’ (class struct) State Award [1996] NSWIRComm 190on 26 October 1996 to replace the former Clerks’ (State) Award.

The new award provides a new classification structure with prospective increases. The new rates come into effect on the first pay period to commence on or after 1 June 1997. They are:

Classification Rate per week ($)

Grade 1

388.40

Grade 2

409.50

Grade 3

441.20

Grade 4

482.90

Grade 5

545.50

As a result, the new ‘exemption’ rate is $627.00 pw. Allowances and junior rates are not varied, nor are the rates for classification levels 1 and 2. Increases may be absorbed into over award payments provided employees are paid, as a minimum, the new award amounts.

Subscribers will recall that the first phased-in increase came into effect on the first pay period to commence on or after 1 March 1997.
