TCF and Felt Hatting awards have received the third $8 safety net adjustment following a recent hearing before Commissioner Cargill of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

Commissioner Cargill considered the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia’s (TCFUA) application on 22 March, 1996. The Commission was satisfied with the award review process and granted the $8 wage increase available under the Third Safety Net Adjustment and Section 150A Review decision of October, 1995.

The intentions of the Section 150A award review process associated with the third safety net adjustment are:

  • to remove obsolete provisions of the award
  • to remove any discrimination;
  • to update the award; and
  • to express the award in plain English

The third $8 safety net adjustment is operative from the first pay period to commence on or after 28 March, 1996, for Clothing, Textile and Felt Hatting Consolidated awards and 1 April, 1996 for the Footwear Manufacturing Industry (State) Consolidated Award. The increase may be offset to the extent of any wage increases payable since 1 November, 1991 pursuant to certified agreements, enterprise flexibility agreements, consent awards or award variations to give effect to enterprise agreements insofar as the increase has not been used to offset a previous safety net adjustment.
