The Tasmanian Government will set-up an Anti-Discrimination Commission in the State to administer the complaints mechanism of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (the "ADA").

The Anti-Discrimination Commission will absorb the Sex Discrimination Commission function as the ADA repealed the earlier Sex Discrimination Act (1984). Any cases commenced under the Sex Discrimination Act (1984) will be continued under the ADA.

The Anti-Discrimination Commission will also provide a local point of contact for the federal Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC).

The Anti-Discrimination Commission is expected to be established early in the new financial year.
