Between 1 March 1997 and 31 March 1998, the Office of the Employment Advocate received a total of 225 freedom of association complaints.

84% of the complaints were made in either, Victoria, Queensland or New South Wales. There are currently two matters before the Federal Court in relation to Freedom of Association. One of the matters involves the National Union of Workers (NUW) and the other union is the Transport Workers Union (TWU).

These figures have been taken from the Department of Workplace Relations and Small Business’ ‘Workplace Relations Act Monitor - March Quarter 1998’.
