Apprentice and trainee wages and conditions review postponed

The President of Fair Work Australia, Justice Giudice, has stated that a comprehensive review of apprentice and trainee wages and conditions will have to be delayed — it will not form part of the 2011 annual wage review.

A key consideration was the work being conducted by the Apprenticeships for the 21st Century Panel, which the Federal Government has directed to advise it on reform options for the Australian apprenticeship system to meet the skills needs of the Australian economy. Justice Giudice said any review of apprentice and trainee wages and conditions should take into account the elements of the regulatory framework that would be impacted by the panel’s report.

The President’s statement is available online.
