The new Federal Government has issued the new Administrative Arrangement Order (AAO) clarifying the allocation of ministerial/departmental responsibilities. Those areas relevant to employment are noted here.

It is one of the first acts of a new government at its inaugural meeting of the Executive Council. The Order sets out which departments and agencies will be administered by particular ministers. It also lists the legislation that will be administered by the Minister.

This information is useful for employers and others involved in work-related matters as finding the relevant department to address a particular issue is not always obvious. For example, the Attorney-General's Department has Fair Work Act responsibilities along with the Department of Employment.
