One of the more contentious issues of the federal Government’s reform package is the amendments which will allow State agreements to override federal awards.

Both the Labor opposition and the Democrats have flagged their concerns with these provisions arguing that this will inevitably lead to the Government breaking it’s pre-election promise that no worker will be worse off under the Government’s industrial relations reform package.

The Financial Review reported today (Tuesday, 28 May) that the Government is considering backing off from this amendment. However, in what could be a foretaste of things to come, a Government spokesperson has informed the Chamber that this information did not come from any Government Minister and was probably leaked by a public servant.
