Gazetted on 9 September 1999 Workplace Relations Regulations 1996(No.4) SR No. 195 of 1999, related to the process through which the Registry makes public proposed changes to the eligibility rules of associations. Previously when an association applied for registration under s188of the Act, or sought a change of name or alterations to its eligibility rules under s204; then regulations 35and 49required that the Registry publish in the Government Gazette a copy of the association's old (in the case of reg 49) and new eligibility rules.

The effect of the amendments to reg 35and 49is that, it will no longer be necessary to publish the full text of the proposed rules in the Gazette.

Gazzetted on 16 September 1999, Workplace Relations Amendment Regulations 1999 (No. 5) SR No. 205 of 1999, is in response to the recommendations of a Joint Standing Committee Inquiry into the role of the Australian Electoral Office in conducting industrial elections. The amendments serve to reduce the time, from 6 to 3 months after declared, within which an application for an inquiry into an election must be made to the Federal Court. The amendments also make it an offence to use the roll for purposes other than in relation to the election or ballot for which it was prepared, and provide that the Electoral Commission may keep and provide voter rolls in electronic form.
