The Coalition government’s Omnibus Repeal Day (Autumn 2014) Bill, expected to be passed today, will have limited effect on Australian employers.

The bill, which covers 10 different portfolios and is purported to include the repeal of 10,000 pieces of legislation, aims to reduce red tape and regulation for business.

The only section of the bill that appears to affect employers is the repeal of the Construction Industry Reform and Development Act 1992.

The bill has been welcomed by employer groups and the government has claimed it will save Australian businesses $700 million a year. More ‘red tape days’ are scheduled for later this year.
