The Bill encompassing the latest IR changes sought by the federal Government went to the Senate on 11 August. HR Link will watch its progress and keep readers informed.

The Workplace Relations Legislation Amendment (More Jobs, Better Pay) Bill 1999 amends the Workplace Relations Act 1996(Act) and is structured into 18 schedules. Briefly, the Bill de-emphasises awards and the reliance of workplace parties on the Commission, its processes and its instruments. It dilutes union rights and places union activity much more into the hands of members at a particular workplace, and places restrictions on unfair dismissal applications and proceedings during the course of an unfair dismissal claim.
