The Fair Work Commission has recommended the ABC should manage its redundancy selection process on the basis it remains subject to consultation.

The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance and the Community and Public Sector Union argued the current process was unfair.

Vice-President Catanzariti said  the ABC should advise staff (who have been identified as potentially redundant) that if they wish to be made redundant prior to Christmas 2014, they are to advise the ABC prior to close of business on Friday 19 December 2014 (to allow final payment prior to Christmas) or by Monday 29 December 2014 (to allow final payment by 31 December 2014).

In respect of those staff who do not wish to be made redundant prior to Christmas 2014, the ABC should continue to consult with staff and unions regarding the proposed redundancies.

In making these recommendations, the Commission made no comment or determination on the validity or otherwise of the ABC's redundancy process.
