Employment at record high - again

The December figures show that, seasonally adjusted, employment increased by 44,600 to a record high of 10,337,300.

The December figures show that, seasonally adjusted, employment increased by 44,600 to a record high of 10,337,300.

Full-time employment increased by 17,700 to a record high of 7,382,200, while part-time employment rose by 26,900 to 2,955,100, also a record high.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was steady, at 4.6% in December, its equal lowest level in 30 years, while the number of people looking for work rose slightly, by 2,300 over the month.

The seasonally adjusted participation rate increased to 64.9% in December, as strong labour market conditions encouraged even more people to enter the labour market.

The seasonally adjusted teenage full-time unemployment rate rose slightly, to 20.7% in December.
